Examining the State of Fleet in 2024

To say the last 12 to 18 months have been a challenge for fleet operators would be an understatement. Disruptions across the industry and turbulent economic conditions have impacted virtually every aspect of fleet operations. From rising interest rates and inconsistent supply chain performance to increasing maintenance costs and fuel price volatility, you have likely found yourself navigating a number of headwinds.

With a look at the road ahead and what 2024 (and beyond) has in store for fleet operators, Automotive Fleet recently provided a comprehensive look at the state of the industry. In the article, a number of Holman experts shared their perspectives on several key topics.

Vehicles lifecycles and lingering supply chain disruptions remain a particular area of focus for many fleet operators. In the article, Holman’s Patrick Doyle noted that fortunately, the supply chain continues to rebound, and cycle times are improving. However, he also cautioned that there’s still work to be done.

“It will likely take multiple order cycles to normalize vehicle lifecycles, which have likely been severely disrupted by several years of limited new vehicle availability.”

Patrick Doyle

Director of Supply Chain Solutions.

Patrick recommended developing a comprehensive long-term strategy that gradually gets your fleet back to optimal replacement rates over the next few years. Holman’s Ed Powell also shared his thoughts on the supply chain and vehicle lifecycles as he offered reason for optimism.

“Fortunately, all the major OEMs have committed to expanding the scope of vehicles allotted for fleet operators in 2024 so we certainly expect to see an increase in fleet sales.”

Ed Powell

Director of Consulting Services

Ed highlighted that limited vehicle availability should no longer hinder fleet ordering, allowing fleet operators to get their vehicle lifecycles back on track.

A supplemental article from Automotive Fleet offered an in-depth look at the current state of fleet electrification. In this article, Holman’s Jeremy Dewey shared his expertise on a number of emerging trends. The article also highlighted McKinstry’s electrification journey.
